Project Description:
Muxe, 2024
Libertad, 2024
Ceramic artist from Ocotlan de Morelos, Oaxaca who grew up in the family of the master ceramic artist Josefina Aguilar. She dedicated herself to create painted ceramic figures by a very young age. Presently, her work differs in sensibility and expression; it focuses mainly on playing with gender roles in representing personalities of Oaxacan culture, such as mermaids, saints, virgins, cabaret ladies, Muxes, and other icons. They are a representation of her jovial imagination and are part of her everyday life. Her goal is to have the collector find a connection with her work and images.
“Being an artisan means a lot to me, since by doing so I am preventing a heritage that dates back to our ancestors from disappearing, and now I express it in a more current way.”
